Why Are Generators Used On A Construction Site

Every home improvement project has its share of obstacles, but the sound of generators on a construction site can be downright alarming. The truth is that these machines are not only common on construction sites, they’re also important to have around.

Before the electric grid was readily available, they were used in industry to provide electric power. They have also been used at remote campsites and homes. The main reason they are used at construction sites is to provide a portable source of electricity while the electric grid is being constructed.

Here’s why you’ll likely hear generators on your next home improvement project:

Loud noises are common in construction – Contractors use air compressors, circular saws and other noisy tools every day. However, one noise stands out above the rest — that of a generator running nearby. Some people who have never been near one before think it’s just one loud machine, when in fact it’s actually made up of several smaller pieces working together to create the sound. There are several reasons why contractors use generators on a construction site:

Power Outages – One of the biggest uses for generators on a construction site is to ensure that it can continue to function during power outages. It’s a good idea for homeowners to have emergency supplies on hand during an outage, but contractors don’t always have time to drive around town gathering materials or stopping by a store before work resumes.

Running Power Tools Off Site – Sometimes it isn’t possible or feasible for contractors to run an extension cord from their normal power supply source to where they need it most.

Generators are also used in case the local power company has problems providing power to the site due to weather conditions or other factors outside their control. It can be frustrating for workers and builders if they have no access to power needed for construction and remodelling projects due to factors beyond their control.

In some cases, generators may be used as back-up sources of energy in the event that other energy sources fail or experience problems. For example, the local power company might experience problems with their equipment that causes them to have extended outages in some areas.

Power for Heavy Equipment – Generators are used to provide power for heavy equipment that require a lot of energy like a piece of machinery or tools such as cranes and excavator among others. They are also used to provide power when there is a blackout or when there is low supply of electricity from the main source.
