How to Paint a Trippy Painting: The Easiest Way to Get Started!

Trippy paintings are a great way to express creativity and individuality. They can also be a great addition to any room. But some people might think that this type of art is too complicated for them, or for those who don’t have the talent. This article will teach you how to paint trippy paintings from start to finish! You’ll feel like an artist in no time at all.

Materials and Tools

Before we start, you’ll need the following materials and tools:

  • Paint (black, white, blue)
  • Brushes to use with paint
  • Acrylic gloss varnish spray
  • Cups or glasses for mixing paint
  • Paint thinners or turpentine
  • Canvas board to use as a painting surface
  • Sheets of paper to create your desired look and design on before transferring it onto the canvas

Starting with the Background

The first step to painting the background of your trippy painting is determining the size and shape of the canvas. There are many different sizes you can use for your canvas, but most people use a 16” x 20” canvas. You can also choose a smaller size for your painting if you want it to be more intimate or compact. You can use any color of paint you want! Paint one long swath from left to right, then another from top to bottom, to cover the canvas. Cover up any empty white patches in between with some random brushstrokes.

Do this again, but don’t mix colors together this time! You’ll want the second coat of paint to have its own unique color palette. Go back and forth with all sorts of colors until you’ve covered up any patches that need it. The more layers and colors you add on here, the better your final product will be.

Defining the Subject of the Painting

When painting a trippy art you have to define what the subject will be. This is where you’ll begin to decide if the piece will take on a surrealist style or have more literal content. In this example, we’ll be painting a face coming out of a hole.

Painting the Subject

The next step is to paint the subject. This can be a person, animal, or object. The most popular subjects are people and animals. To start, find an image of the painting you want to do on your phone or computer. Make sure it’s a good size for the space you have in mind for your painting. You may want to print out the image and put it up against the wall where you plan to paint it so that you can get a better idea of how much room you’ll need for your work.

Adding Color and Finishing Touches

Adding color to your painting can be done in a few different ways. You could use paint brushes, ink pens, or crayons with a big coloring book. For the finishing touches, you could add stars, flowers, and other images to suit your liking.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to adding things to your art. This is one of the main reasons why people love creating trippy paintings- they have so much freedom! So go ahead and create something that makes you happy while also making others happy.
